About Sprachcamp

Sprachcamp is a Christian based summer camp held in East Germany every year. It was founded in 2003 by a pastor from California. His vision was to create a camp where local youth can improve their English and learn about Jesus Christ. Every year about 20 Americans fly over to Germany to serve anlong with the German staff. It is an awesome week to be together with other amazing people to have fun and share great experiences. There are crazy games, an awesome band, and fun activities. Most friendships you make here will last a lifetime. Aside from the crazy games and learning English we are serious about Jesus Christ and the power that comes from a personal relationship with him. We love to display Jesus Christ throughout camp to the students.

Get Involved

Volunteering at Sprachcamp is an amazing experience. Now, you may ask, “Why do a missions trip in Germany?” Even 30 years after the fall of the Wall and the communist government of East Germany, many churches are not reaching the youth and bringing them close to Christ. The youth of Eastern Germany do not have a dynamic, engaging way to experience Christ. For many, Sprachcamp is the only time they will hear about Jesus in a relatable way. Our Story

The first Sprachcamp in 2003 under the leadership of the American youth pastor Mitch Bernay grew out of a partnership of the Lutheran Church of Oderwitz Bel Air Presbyterian Church Los Angeles. Since then it took place almost every summer. From 2009 to 2019 Sprachcamp was held at “Haus am See” in Mötzow an hour west of Berlin. Due to Corona Sprachcamp was forced to pause for 2 years. However, in 2021 Sprachcamp took a fresh start in Ruppersdorf, in the heart of the “Oberlausitz”. Since then Sprachcamp is part of the church planting “Lichtwerk – FeG Oberlausitz“.
